Depression Signs in Men

February 26th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Men are often hard to read when it comes to detecting depression because they are less apt to even notice it themselves and even less apt to approach a professional for help.  This is one of the contributing factors to the falsehood is that more than double the amount of women suffer depression than the number of men.

Depression signs in men are just as apparent as in women also but for some reason our society has made it acceptable for men to act in ‘grouchy’ or ‘gruff’ ways.  For this reason, depression signs in men often go unnoticed and untreated for a long time.

There is no set of laws that govern how to identify depression signs in men but most often he will display a miserable attitude and in general, look and act unhappy.  He will lack the ability to concentrate on anything for any length of time and this will bring on feelings of guilt and a feeling of helplessness.

Men get increasing more depressed also with the feelings of helplessness because it causes a feeling of not being in control.  Depression signs in men tend to follow a trend of acting pessimistic and even displays at times, an urge to commit suicide.

Sleeping is extremely difficult in depression signs in men and wake frequently throughout the night.  His interest in a sex life will all but completely diminish and he won’t actively seek intimacy with his partner.  It is also not uncommon for a man to lose weight while depressed due to the loss of appetite often associated with depression.

Generally depression is well hidden from those around you but depression signs in men tend to come through in their livelihoods more than in their personal lives.  This is likely due to the amount of time spent on the job as opposed to at home.

The job performance will suffer and the man displaying signs of depression will seem strangely quiet.  His co-workers may find him irritable and a constant complainer about not feeling well or other vague physical problems.  Depression signs in men can also include and are not limited to not having proper hygiene or showing up to work unshaven and basically unclean.

Some symptoms are frequently seen in both men and women when dealing with depression disorders.  Depression signs in men and women share a common bond in that they both display bouts of sudden anger for no apparent reason and intense irritability.

Depression and Vitamin D

February 23rd, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

There is a direct relationship between depression and vitamin D deficiency.  It is starting to be widely and internationally recognized as an increasingly troublesome problem.  Although studies have shown a broad range of deficiencies among all races, ages and lifestyles, the highest average of deficient suffers showed a relationship between depression and vitamin D deficiency.

It is also a widely accepted belief that vitamin D deficiency causes muscle weakness, osteoporosis as well as numerous other bone structure diseases and disorders.

Our main source of vitamin D is ultraviolet light from the sun, which stimulates the creation of the vitamin through a molecule in the skin.  Fleshy foods are not a great source of vitamin D with the exception of fish oils and select other natural supplement vitamin and nutrients.

Depression and vitamin D deficiency are also linked through diet as most of us don’t consume the required amounts of vitamin D and as well, don’t spend enough time in the sunlight to have the molecules accelerate the process of creating vitamin D.

Studies found that serious depression and vitamin D deficiency showed that sunscreen users were also more apt to study from depression.  Sunscreen blocks the necessary ultraviolet light to activate the molecules.  Taking a vitamin supplement, and being more conscious of you put in your diet can; often remedy this depression and vitamin D deficiency.

Winter, and seasonal depression and vitamin D deficiency has been linked as well as the sun does not provide as much light as in the summer season.  Many patients seek light therapy and in individuals who suffer from this ailment, there is often a significant improvement.

Studies have shown that seasonal depression is in part due to the decrease of vitamin D synthesis in the skin.  In studies that were done on ailments that are closely associated with depression and vitamin D deficiency included Fibromyalgia however, were unable to make a direct tie, as the patients were not given a vitamin D supplement.

Many studies done over the years by various researchers and project have developed a belief that vitamin D supplements can help prevent bone loss and reduces the risks of getting osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.

Vitamin D has been proven to be an essential vitamin that should be added to our diets diligently.  It has also been shown in some studies to show an improvement not only in treating the symptoms of depression but also in the aiding of the prevention of depression.

Depression And Self Test

February 5th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Depression, a condition that has now had public worldwide recognition, can be down to numerous factors in a person’s life. However, it is possible to do a depression and self test to see if you are suffering from some form of depression. If you are planning to go to your doctors regarding depression, then it may be an idea to do a self test so that you can know yourself if you are suffering from depression.

Although we believe it to be common sense to know if you are suffering from depression, some people are still unsure. We are going to give you some basic points that you should be saying not at all to if you  are not depressed, if you are depressed you will probably be thinking to your self yes as we go over some basic points.

Depression and self test points

People who are depressed generally feel sad and irritable for many hours of the day, if you can relate to this, then you are probably depressed in some form, if not then this is a good sign that you may just be down.

If the future looks hopeless to you, then this may be a sure sign you are depressed, if you are thinking the future is bright, this is positive, and we suggest you stay in this frame of mind. What good is it being negative in the end, it gets you no where.

Winners fail, they fail again, they keep on trying, they get hit down, they keep going forward, bouncing back, eventually they start to win in their life. This is persistence and positive mental attitude. Being depressed wont let you do not become someone, nor will you ever reach goals.

Further Depression and self test points

If you think of yourself as a failure, have low self esteem and feel inadequate or even inferior to others, this is a sure sign of depression. We suggest you start to think positive, and start to think of how can I become better than what I am currently am.

Set your self on path to change your situation. Its always going to be hard work in life, but it doesn’t all have to be so bad. You simply have to start seeing things in a different way, re programme your mind.

If you have trouble making up your mind, are self critical, feel resentful, and are generally angry for the majority of time throughout the day, then we would say you are for sure, suffering from depression.

Remember, once you have found out that you are depressed, it isn’t the end of the world, and you may be even diagnosed with manic depression. This is a severe depression condition that can often take months, even years to get over. However, with the right attitude, the right people around you, it doesn’t all have to be so bad. We suggest you surround yourself with winners and set on a new plan to achieve personal burning goals.
